The GATE Progam
Torrance Unified School District prides itself on academic excellence and the high achievement of our students. The goal of our GATE program is to identify students with exceptional abilities, well beyond grade or age expectations, and then establish how the child can receive both differentiated learning experiences within the classroom and enrichment opportunities outside of the classroom.
Fourth and Fifth Grade
All fourth and fifth grade students are being offered the opportunity to participate in GATE testing based on either teacher recommendation and / or parent request.
If you would like to request testing, please ask your child's teacher for an application.
The deadline for returning your permission slip to your child's teacher is December 16, 2014.
GATE testing for fourth and fifth graders will take place at Victor on February 23, 2015.
Third Grade
All third grade students are being offered the oppurtunity to participate in GATE testing. A parent letter with more detailed information will be mailed home to families of 3rd grade students.
The deadline for returning your permission slip to your 3rd grade child's teacher is October 8, 2014.
Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to help coordinate our GATE Parent Action Committee. You would help facilitate a parent led program where optional enrichment activities for Victor GATE students will be coordinated on a regular basis throughout the year. Please let Mr. Baker know if you or someone you know can help coordinate this program. Thank you!
