Dear Victor Families,
Welcome back to our returning families! To our Kindergarten and new families: Welcome to the Victor community! I look forward to meeting you all on the first day of school and at various PTA events throughout the school year!
The Victor PTA is an integral part of our school. Not only do we host fun events like Movie Night, Science Night and dances during the year, we fully fund educational programs that benefit all our students. Our science lab and science teacher, K ‐3 music program, Adventures in Art, study trips, educational assemblies and more are paid 100% by the PTA.
We are able to provide these activities because of the support of our Victor families. This year we need to raise about $150,000 to continue the PTA funded programs. That amount may sound astronomical, however, it is only about $15 per student per month over the upcoming school year. We will hold two major fundraisers – one in fall and one in the beginning of 2017. Every penny of your donation goes back to your school and your students. The suggested contribution is $150 per student at Victor, and we encourage you to give more if you can to help families who are struggling. To quote the amazing Glennon Doyle Melton of Momastery: “There is no such thing as other people’s children.” We are all in this together.
Our Victor PTA Membership Drive is under way! I encourage you all to renew or start a new membership for only $10 per person. Your membership gives you a voice at PTA meetings, early access to PTA events, discounts at various businesses and – most importantly – you are supporting the oldest and largest child advocacy organization in the US!
Becoming a PTA member does not mean you are expected to give your time at school – however, for our community to be strong, everyone’s participation is essential. Many parents feel they cannot participate in the PTA because they are still learning English, or they cannot be on campus during the day because of work. Please don’t let that discourage you. Whether you have 30 minutes or a few hours, your time, your ideas, your talents and your voice are truly needed and appreciated. There are endless possibilities for mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts and uncles to contribute, and we can match your time constraints and abilities to needed tasks. Keep in mind that by volunteering at your school, you will get to play “fly on the wall” and see your child interact with their friends, get to know classmates, teachers and other parents. I promise that the time and effort you give to your school and PTA will be well worth your while – and fun!
Thank you for your support! I wish you all a fulfilling and productive year ahead. Please contact me anytime about PTA events, activities or questions you may have.
